A few things that make me feel like putting a bullet in my head…..

We live on an incredibly beautiful island. There are many incredibly beautiful places to be, but this place has more natural beauty as far as the night skies, the colors of the sea and landscapes, the amazing diversity of the people, and the climate, etc. etc., than any place I’ve ever heard of.

Sometimes I take it for granted for a brief instant. But then I see or hear or feel or meet something or someone that makes me remember why I am here. I guess I have a love/hate relationship with this place. But actually the place is perfect. If it weren’t for some clueless people.

We did a bunch of massages on the beach the other day. It was a great day. The people we massaged were super nice, but the beach was littered with straws, cigarette butts, and AA batteries! It was embarrassing! And this was at a “resort”!

Then, one of the workmen decided that the half-dozen or so leaves on the sidewalk needed to be moved with one of those leaf blowers. It took him 20-30 minutes of ridiculously loud noise to move the leaves out of the way.

Today, a family with a baby was on this same beach where I was massaging some other nice people. The baby cried for a long time. People were on the beach trying to enjoy peace and quiet, while this kid was screeching. He or she stopped for a few minutes, but then started up again. I was ready to shout at them that it was time to take the critter home now, that people were trying to have a relaxing afternoon on the beach. But I was able to hold my tongue and the baby finally did the same.

Why can’t a “resort” such as this, make sure the beach is raked and garbage is picked up? And what makes people so inconsiderate of others?

I saw a AA battery and a “you know what” at the tidal pool the other day.

Anna gave you a great complement on her Sun Blog if you haven’t seen it.

    inconsiderate butt-heads
but if they thought at all they wouldn’t be smoking…

noise and light pollution are other things most don’t even notice
even when it effects their hearing and health
sometimes it gets to me too, you’re not alone in abhorring the unaware defacing of the planet’s beauty

but suicide? the affliction of observation might be cured but at what cost?

    and we would miss you

Thanks for checking Anna’s blog, Wreg. It was a nice review.

Oh Lisa, the noise and light thing make me nutty, too. A year and a half ago, they put new street lights on our little tiny two bit street, where no robber in his/her right mind would come, because our dogs would alert the entire east end.

The lights shine into our bedroom, keeping us up unless we wear uncomfortable eye masks, AND they allow the dogs to see everything that moves, so they end up barking all night for no reason sometimes, too. I’m hoping they go out soon, because there won’t be enough money for WAPA to keep them going. But, of course, necessary ones like on Company St. in C’sted and on the bad Lowry Hill Road curves are out while we continue to lose sleep.

So here’s the new “noise ordinance”, but the jerks with the boom cars still rock our worlds, because, by the time the cops would get to where we heard them, they’d be long gone.

And what about jet skis and that power boat race thing. Those are loud, obnoxious, annoying things. They should be outlawed in my humbly, pissed off at the world opinion!

What is a better option for a tired of the world, totally pissed off, middle-aged woman, Lisa?

Every morning I pick up butts, cups, straws, bottles, and even occasional condoms. We keep the beach clean but why can’t people take their own trash with them. And – take their screaming kids home.

  5. Terry Says:

That’s one of the many things I love about your beach, Sandy. You take good care of it.

But it’s ridiculous that you have to pick up after clueless clods. The condoms and dirty diapers make me nauseous.

And really, shouldn’t screaming kids fall under the noise ordinance law?
