Another Golden promise…

… so don’t hold your breath.

You may have seen this huge billboard going up on the South shore. It is not yet clear whether anyone has obtained an Advertising Device Permit for this sign, but it is certain that the sign exceeds the allowable dimensions by a factor of 10. The “Advertising Device Regulations” promulgated on June 8, 2008 by Darryl Smalls, Commissioner of DPW, states:

3. Advertising devices (signs) dimensions must not exceed 4′ x 4′

This sign measures 10′ x 16′. But hey, why start following the laws and rules now?

I just want to know if he’ll come through with the beer.

Most likely that foreign Budweiser company.

  2. Michael Says:

Hey, just because they have lousy taste in American beers doesn’t mean they have no scruples. And the beer they make, Amstel Light, is pretty good.

  3. Don Says:

So maybe Mr. Golden doesn’t define this as an “advertising device, or sign”. Remember…? “It depends on what the definition of ‘is’ is.”

Should we start a competition for what should go on the sign, to give him some ideas?

    Don

    Sam the man.

    Tacky, very tacky.

  6. Terry Says:

    Great idea, Don!

How many kids do you have, Sam “the man”? And do casinos bring “peace”?

Hahahahaha… it never fails to amuse me when the same folks we hear moaning about “outsiders come here to change the way we do things” embrace the weasley one from New Jersey as some kind of savior.

If we just compromise our land, our laws, our environment and our future, He will bring about the Golden Years of St. Croix ;)

  8. Sam Mcneil Says:

Praise and Hallelujah brother Michael. The Golden years is correct, and thanks and praise be upon the Golden Years.

Sister Terry I have four grown children all working in the casino hotel business in this our glorious Caribbean.

All on separate islands and all the islands prospering and happy.

Peace be upon you my friends.

    Sam the man.

Don’t Christians consider gambling a sin?

  10. Wreggie Says:

No. You take a gamble planting a crop or having a child. Calculating risk and taking the risk is gambling, at least by my definition.

Baptist aren’t too tolerant on gambling at least when it comes to games of chance, but Catholics are tolerant, IE. bingo parlors

I think perhaps you are gambling the future of the island by having too many casinos.

The discussion here has most often discussed jobs and the environment. What about crime. Crime and organized crime is usually associated with most gambling.

Most casinos attract vast amounts of money laundering.

  11. Terry Says:

Excellent question, Lisa. Let’s see where “Sam the man” chimes in on this one, if he does.

Wreg, excellent points from a frequent island visitor who spends lots of US dollars here because we are a unique and naturally beautiful island. Thanks!

  12. Lisa Says:

I did mean it as organized Casino-style games of chance involving large amounts of currency; Craps, Black-Jack, Poker, Slots, etc…

I wonder if the Wyndham folk have visited the site and tried to get to that beautiful turquoise water that is out in Great Pond Bay, only to discover that there is NO SANDY BEACH!! The off shore shallows are muck and grassbeds. Near the entrance to the pond are mangroves which have their sharp rooty-things sticking up. Up near the Boy Scout camp it is rocky. Also, it does smell like the swamp it is. This is NOT a good location for a Caribbean Resort.

  13. Terry Says:

Oh no, Lisa, when Golden held his big press conference to tell the world he was being backed by Wyndham, no one from Wyndham even showed up.

So they probably have not been down there. And when Golden takes people on his tours (which he of course controls) he doesn’t show them the questionable areas.

  14. Lisa Says:

How many lawsuits are currently pending?

Is one of them by the adjacent homeowners? The impact on their lives will be huge, beginning with the construction and continuing with the opening and operation a even a small casino.

Look how the C’sted By-Pass is currently impacting areas far removed from the actual construction. The giant trucks are destroying the existing roads.

WARNING traveling north on Route 83 (Catherine’s Rest Rd) from Route 62 (South Shore) Watch out for the GIANT hidden-until-you-are-on-it pimple pot hole that is two poles up from the entrance to Est. Granard. I have seen two cars so far pulled over after it and someones ripped open oil pan must have left a long dark stain.
