Awesome Art and Artists

Friday night we went to an opening reception of an art show where all of the proceeds would be donated to a local organization helping to bring food, fresh water and medical treatment to people in Haiti.

We know many of the artists and their works are always amazing. Trudi Gilliam and Bonnie Luria, Emy Thomas and Don Dahlke are among the talented and generous souls who gave their beautiful works to this important cause.

We weren’t able to buy any art. We are out of wall space. But there were also gift certificates that people could purchase which would appropriate monies toward meals, water or medical care. So we did our Christmas shopping right there.

It is the beginning of the busy social season now. Last week, besides the CZM hearing in Frederiksted, we went to UVI to see a presentation of a NOVA special called, “Dimming the Sun”. It was extremely interesting. This Thursday was art walk in Christiansted, Friday was the art show/benefit, Tonight we went to see CCT’s production of a play called “Bee Luther Hatchee“. It was fabulous. Incredible talent and the subject matter, extremely emotional and pertinent at this time. They’re doing a matinee performance tomorrow (Sunday, November 16) and two more evening shows next week-end. It is a must-see!

And the art show/benefit at Walsh Metal Works continues for a while longer as well. Enjoy!

Hi, I am so glad you went to the Haitian Relief Art Show, for me it was a no brainer to donate to an island that has been so badly hit by storms this year. The storms only added to the Haitian’s deplorable conditions. As a busy artist, and one who feels very lucky to be doing what I do, it is my way of contributing to those folks who need help. I hope they raised lots of money for a very good cause. I would much rather give a piece of artwork than sit on some fund raising committee… ugh, I don’t herd up very well in that regard.

There were a lot of people at the show, Trudi, and I, for one, was drooling over your sculpture of palm trees and winged creatures flying over a tropical paradise.

We just need to build another room on our house for art that we can’t fit (Michael’s Mom does water colors and we have been the lucky recipients of much of her work – which is part of the reason we no longer have space….).

Committees – I agree with you 100% on that. Michael and I were both asked to join the board of directors of a local non-profit, and Michael, diplomat that he is, considered it until I said, “Okay, you’ll need to make sure all the cars are fixed and the biodiesel project is running smoothly and the house is painted and…..before you do it though.” So he declined.

And I have neither the patience nor the time to sit around talking about what needs to be done. Let me just do it!

Thanks Terry, and it was an inspiring event that showcased how generous and giving our community here is.
It was no small effort to coordinate so many donors and pull something like this together.
    And season just began…..

Thanks for the link to the great review of Bee-Luther_Hatchee. I’ve passed it on. A very moving show.
    With a twist!

There is one more additional chance to AUDITON for CCT’s spring musical:”Evita” tonight, Monday, Nov 17, 7pm at the Theatre at Orange Grove. There is a huge Ensemble of all ages.
