Blogger’s Block
Once upon a time, I was a daily blogger. I sometimes even blogged multiple times in a day. I was inspired by the island of St. Croix and my life here with Michael and the dogs and cats. I loved writing about places we’d go and things we’d do.
It was a creative outlet. And it was therapeutic for me, especially after “the miscarriage”.
In the last couple of weeks I’ve been thinking about the futility of it all. Has anything I’ve spent my time blogging about made a difference?
There are still a few things I haven’t done on St. Croix, even after living here for almost 15 years. Maybe that means I don’t really want to do them. The one thing that stands out in my mind is horseback riding. Being an animal rights person, the idea of making a gentle. docile animal carry me around when I have two perfectly fine feet and legs for walking and hiking does not thrill me. So, although I love horses, I do not at this time feel the need to get involved with them.
I’m trying to think of new stuff to write about. We’ve gotten involved with politics, the arts, sports, music, and history and culture among other things. If there’s something we’ve missed, let us know, or chime in yourselves.
Anyway, we went to Buck again on our kayaks for mother’s day and had dinner at an okay restaurant. It was wonderful to spend time with my daughter and my very special hubby on a beautiful day in paradise, but I just wrote about that a couple of weeks ago.
Oh true, every detail is different, we laughed about different things this time, and saw different people, but if I were a reader of this blog, I’d be bored by….. yet another post about yet another perfect day kayaking to Buck Island.
Ooops….unboring item: Michael and Nicole brought me to Gems Direct to show me their mother’s day gifts for me. I only got to look at them because we couldn’t take them to Buck or leave them in the car while we were out there. Their thoughtful and much appreciated gifts are an absolutely lovely bouquet of roses from my sweetheart, and a magnificent moonstone and brilliant paraiba tourmaline pendant set in white and yellow gold from my amazing daughter.
Back to “blogger’s block”: I have a few subjects in “drafts”, but I haven’t been inspired to finish them since I started them.
Yes, we’re still, “Livin’ on St. Croix”, and if you haven’t been following since shortly after “the miscarriage”, there’s a lot of fun stuff in there. And again, please help yourself to a shot at blogging if you have something worthwhile to add…..

I enjoy reading your blog. I like hearing about your life and your thoughts on things. I can imagine it is hard to come up with blog thoughts every day though.

Well, I blogged about Buck so you didn’t have to! Your readers can be bored by my blog instead if they are so inclined
I think you underestimate yourself and your blog, you have many followers and you have always put yourself out as an unofficial St. Croix ambassador, and encouraged others to do the same.
I also took a picture of your pendant and posted that there too: http://diamond-in-the-rough.blogspot.com/2009/05/happy-monday.html

…and I think the ice cream conversation is at least one-paragraph-worthy. That was funny shit.

Terry, I never get tired of reading about your experiences on St. Croix. Please don’t ever stop. Whenever I visit the island I always stay at the Christiansted Hotel. But I’m tired of eating bar food on the pier. Can you recommend reasonable restaurants on the island ? Also, I continue to live vicariously through your island experiences. In 10 years or less I will be retiring and building a modest home on my land there. So please don’t ever stop blogging.
Regards,
–kwat

Thanks, Judy. Well, it’s not that difficult to come up with stuff. Just getting to the computer to try to word things the right way so people will understand and appreciate can be challenging, and I wonder if it’s worth my time and energy when there are so many projects around the house that still need to be done. Blogging is starting to feel like just another chore interfering with more important ones…..
Fun post about Flat Nicole, Nik! I’ll have to try to remember the ice cream conversation…..
Thanks, too kwat.

I too enjoy your writings, Terry, and your take on island politics, the social scene, and how you go about enjoying your life on what I think is a great place to live. You have a unique way of being funny and mad at the same time, a signature I have come to rely on! I think it is good questioning what you are saying and telling on the blog. I also think that coming off a busy season must tire you out. I always loved how summer gave me more time for myself; with the tourists and winter visitors gone, the island felt like it was mine again to enjoy in a more peaceful way. I guess what I am saying is take time for yourself, the rest will follow. I am looking forward to your description of your upcoming sailing trip. And of course, there will always be the things that life throws at you regardless of where you live! I read your blog daily, but I don’t always comment as sometimes I think, not being a resident of St. Croix anymore, it does not bode well for me to butt into things that don’t impact me directly. BUT, I always have an opinion, and most of the time I agree with you!

Terry-consider that you may have just exorcised the blockage by taking it public. You’ve an interested, engaged and curious mind which doesn’t mean that it has to be mechanically firing the same way all the time.
I can truly understand your ” wall ” since many times I’ll sit here and think that there isn’t one more thing I can invent to publish that will be interesting, even to myself.
And then, life serves us up an appetizer.
You know so well that living here begets unusual days, wacky occurrences, interesting personalities and unexpected events. You write about all of these things with humor and compassion and zeal.
Take a small break but not too long and circumstance will provide your fertile mind with more paragraphs to write about.

When I saw this title I thought you might be addressing the recent entry that was unfinished, didn’t allow any comments, and had no connection to the rest of the site, that perhaps someone was “blocking” your blog.
I so admire you and Michael for your attention to the various causes and would miss your opinions and recounting the events in a way that we don’t get from the regular news outlets.
So what if the blog doesn’t have daily posts, whenever you get to it is OK by me. Pictures work, too.
I think horses like us to ride them, altho having had a hoof-damaged “pet” at one time here, know that even if we are not up on them they demand a certain amount of affection and interaction. Way back when I got here, there were herds of horses that roamed the island; Cotton Valley, Buccaneer, Tide Village, Mt. Royal/Grange, Orange Grove, Judith’s Fancy were just a few of the locations. They were not really wild, if you captured one, usually someone would track it down to say that it was theirs. There were not too may fences, much less human dwellings, and it made driving uncautiously in certain areas hazardous. I feel blessed I got to experiece that time.

Thanks, Trudi, Bonnie and Lisa. You are three of the most inspiring people I’ve met and I value every insight you have to offer.
