Cowfolk on Horseback
We were heading west this morning to begin our long day of errands, research and work. As we drove by the South Shore Cafe, we saw a guy on horseback herding Senepol cattle. Up ahead were two women doing the same thing! I turned to Michael and said, ” How cool is that! Do you have the camera?” And, alas, he did not. So you’ll just have to believe that there were cowfolk hard at work wrangling those unruly beasts
on the south shore this morning.
Actually, the Senepol breed is supposedly very docile. Even so, when we come upon a bull while walking in the area, we try to stay as far away as possible. While driving this week, on two separate occasions, we saw cows escaped from the pasture walking and eating grass on the side of the road. Concerned for their welfare and that of motorists, we alerted the people who used to own the herd (it now belongs to the university) so they could call the appropriate person to put the animals back where they belonged.
They are very large animals. Their moovement back to safety is best left to the experts!

Reggie- you are udderly droll ( or drool….).
Seriously, these animals, no fault of their own in not knowing where to graze when it’s dry as the Bonneville Salt Flats, are a hazard to drivers and put themselves at risk without knowing it.
I wonder how high up the food chain a motorist can go without being responsible for the demise of an errant animal.
I ran over a rooster that jumped out in front of my car with no warning and I watched feathers fly, and felt the bumpety bumpety under the car. Couldn’t stop either. Coq au VAN!
