Feelin’ Tropical

Wow! Did the rain ever come down! It poured all night. The lightning and thunder were spectacular (the dogs won’t agree, though) and the pool got refilled. Not to mention the cistern, which must have overflowed hundreds of gallons.

There were a couple of nice showers during the day yesterday that served to make it feel like a sauna. There was not a breeze to be found. Thank goodness for ceiling fans (and solar panels…..we aren’t paying through the nose for WAPA power) to keep us cool.

I picked Michael up from work and we stopped at the Greek on the way home. It was during a lull in the rain bands. We had a few appetizers thinking we might (or might not) head to Luncheria. It all depended on what the weather decided to do. There was still lots of sky lights and noise, and then a few drops started falling, so we got a movie and headed home for popcorn and “Definitely, Maybe”. Sounded like the way my life is going these days.

But it wasn’t at all like my life. It was still an okay movie. I just can’t get past the indefinite ending. Especially where a kid is involved, I guess. But it served to distract us from the storm. The rain was constant, but not torrential until we got to bed. Then the wind picked up for a while and blew the rain in the windows on the south side. We could smell the Great Pond. It smelled like a swamp. Muddy and gaseous and lovely to those of us who enjoy the feast for the senses offered by natural processes.

The wind died down after a bit, and WAPA stayed on (!). I was hoping they’d shut down to save themselves some money. It was night time after all, and in that rain, nobody should have been on the road. But the stupid street lights kept shining in through the windows. And the rain kept on falling. All night long. It was  wonderful.  I know I’ll have to cut the grass soon, but for now we’ll have a couple of days without having to water plants. So it evens out.

Thanks for the description of the rainy day and night. The tropical rainy days are fond memories for me, overflowing cisterns, the green color of the island afterwards, taking a natural shower on the deck, and then getting to wear socks! We had a fireplace video that I would put on the t.v. for atmosphere. Simple pleasures, savored.

Sweet and needed rain for both of us.

It is headed inland and up the coast. I will breathe in deeply the tropical air when it hits.

    Miss you guys.

A good rain, not torrential at all on this side of the hills. The roads didn’t totally wash out. Over 2.5 inches!

Rumor: some of the anchors for the gabion boxes fell down the cliffs on the By-Pass.

Not good weather for painting tho…

Couldn’t WAPA save some $$ by turning off the streetlights for part of the early morning hours? I think it is harder to drive in the stripes of light. It was sooo easy right after the highway to the casino got improved and the white stripes and reflectors on the sides and the yellow ones in the center clearly defined the road.

It is so green and lush, Trudi. It only takes a couple of hours after a rain. The green feels so different.

We’ll send some rum fumes, too, Wreg ;) !

We saw big gullies coming down between the “anchor” thingies at the by-pass excavation, Lisa. Looks like some of them could have gotten loose, too. How exciting.

I’m just thrilled the the mongoose is too muddy for work to be done on it this week-end.
