HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! Jimmy and Roslyn like to fly-fish and visit Madison County in the summer. They stay with their friend Ted Turner who has two ranches here with great fly fishing access. A while ago, they all ate dinner at one of our nice restaurants where I happened to have my work on display. I get a real good feeling that he may have noticed one of my sculptures. He shared the table with John Denver, who alas, died shortly afterwards in a plane crash. Just three more days and I will be winging my way back home to St. Croix.

I once saw Jimmy Carter separated only by a pane of glass. He was signing books at a small independent bookstore in Charlotte and I happened to walk by.

No man has been greater post presidency than during his presidency......his charitable leadership with Habitat for Humanity as well as numerous other organizations, and as a spokesman for peace throughout the world.

My mother was a Habitat worker, now my brother is.

Just one of the many ways he has shaped the world for good.

Having him here should get the island on a positive vibe, great way to start the next decade.

Happy Old Year's Day

I am guessing you are talking about Jimmy Carter who Jack Pickle is hosting. A funny story - in early 1975 I brought Carter to Minnesota for his first campaign trip. No one knew him that well, and the trip made little news at the time in Minneapolis. Even I did not think he had a chance at the democratic party nomination for the presidency, but he is a great speaker and I wanted him in for a Jefferson Forum dinner/speech that I was hosting. I brought him over to see the Governor for lunch at St. Paul and to see the Minneapolis Tribune and St. Paul Pioneer Press editors later in the day. When he was elected president I was regretting that I never got my picture taken with him - I mean I spent the whole day with the guy. So I remembered that the local NBC affiliate had filmed his arrival at the airport with both of us talking together. (he was traveling alone at the time) . I called the station and they confirmed that the FCC required them to keep all news film (including the outakes). They were glad to give me a chunk of film from the outakes (this is still the day of celluloid film) and I took a tiny frame of film and blowed it up into a photo of which he later signed as President.
