We have high hopes for the deJongh administration…But.
After eight years of seeing NOTHING come to St. Croix from the turnbull administration, we are happy to see our current governor out in public, talking to the people, all the while, working to secure a better future for the USVI.
However, since deJongh took office, we have seen the Christiansted by-pass begin. We have also seen more activity on the south shore from the “Golden Gaming” aka “Wyndham St. Croix” project.
We KNOW that this project cannot even begin, since the “permits” Golden and his proposed project has procured are ILLEGAL!!! [Point #1...the CZM board which originally voted to grant Golden a permit did not have a quorum (this means there were not enough voting members present to conduct business that day)].
They should have just gone home…or put off the question to a later date. But the local CZM board proceeded. Ignoring the law. There are many more complicated legal issues that this proposed project has, but we continue to see illegal activity in this area of particular concern (APC).
It seems to be an ongoing problem with this project. Currently, there is a gigantic sign, of billboard proportions, being erected at the entrance to the property Golden/Wyndham purports to be theirs. After repeated calls to government agencies, it appears that there has been no permit issued for this sign.
Everyone I have spoken to this morning has “passed the buck” . My latest written and spoken contacts with agencies involved (including the governor), speak about my concerns regarding federal funding for the territory. I would hate to see federal funding (which lends these agencies credibility) be suspended due to impropriety.
Temporary jobs for the people do not solve the entrenched problems that keep our island oppressed (downpressed) in the long run.
Let’s hope the deJongh administration sees the errors of the ways of the previous administrations and rises toward making St. Croix into the unique and precious gem of the Caribbean that it truly is…

It is time to stop being a negative influence on the future and embrace the potential for the people of St. Croix. St. Croix needs to grow and the “island paradise” that you want will still be here, it will only be better.
God bless you and help you to resolve your malicious ways.
Your brother in Christ.

The FUTURE: no fish or conch on South Shore due to the mud runoff of construction and chemicals from the golf course. Is Wyndham aware that there is NO BEACH there? or have they just been shown the gorgeous blue water that is next to the submerged lands that are the bay-side edge of the property? Have they smelled the site?
C’sted By-Pass: rumor has it that the paving money might first be available in 2012! So what happens when we get torrential rains? Mud runoff down to Gallows Bay, under the Downtown Post Office to the Library, next to the Catholic Church, Sunday Market, The Moravian Cemetary, Water Gut, the Seaplane, all ending up in Christiansted harbor.
The reefs are 50% gone already, this will only help towards their demise.

Tommy, if there is a “God”, and you believe in “him”, why do you think it’s okay for people to destroy this beautiful planet “he” has created?
And what the proposed resort on the south shore holds in store for the people of STX is more menial jobs! Just what everyone wants and needs, right?
Lisa, rational thinking says nothing to people who actually believe in the bible. (When we were in CA, we started reading the bible in the drawer for a good laugh. It contradicted itself on the second page!). But we keep trying anyway. Thanks for your factual comments!

Exactly Tommy. It is time to stop encouraging and endorsing projects that ignore the laws and rules we have in place to protect the people and environment of our islands. Ignoring the laws and rules leads to corruption and a negative impact on our future, as we’ve seen in previous administrations - Contracts and Cronies and Simmonds sentenced to Eight Years are just a few examples from the recent past.
Wait a sec, you’re BLAMING Terry for the negative influence? What, if we don’t say anything, bad stuff will go away and the future will be bright? Isn’t this like killing the messenger? By your logic, the daytime shooting in front of Canegeta Ballpark on Sunday was not a problem, but the Avis, Daily News, and St. Croix Source should be condemned for reporting it. Lets all just ignore the crime and other problems we have here, because talking about them will have a negative influence on the future. Good plan!

well i think it’s very safe to assume that if this place ever gets built you will refuse all massage clients that are staying there simply on a moral and ethical basis because you are protesting the fact that the place was ever built.

They plan to build a spa, so chances are we’ll be banned from the property anyway. I’ve already been prohibited, twice, from going on their property tour (read propaganda tour), and they haven’t even broken ground. I’m wondering if they’re worried I’ll infect the place with negative Juju.

Oh, I’ve been wondering where you’ve been, ladlie.
So, are you saying this actually MIGHT happen, when months ago, I should have been burning down crack houses rather than wasting my time writing about it…..
They will most certainly have their own spa, just like Divi, Carambola and the Bucc.
And you’re correct. I will not massage any of their clients, There will be enough “masseuses” wanting to get a piece of that pie.
We, on the other hand, are Licensed Massage Therapists.

… so that’s how the building next to Serenity House got torched. The other day when driving by I saw some probabaly former occupants inside and some with dogs hanging out in front. One would think that there would be barriers by now. It can’t be safe.
Rumor; a spokesman for the project has been heard harranging the owners of the strip of land that is on the east side of the road (Rt. 62)- from the Boy Scout Camp up to the former Petronella dairy currently South Shore Cafe - to sell to Golden. At the public hearing for the National Park to-be, I noticed this strip and asked if they would be selling to the new proposed resort. The response was chuckles and a no.

Does the Gasperi/Wall family still own that, Lisa?
July 19th, 2008 at 6:29 am
I assume so. Unless they put it in some kind of trust while waiting for the NPS to decide. The NPS were the chucklers.
Looking at the VI Gov map you can see the little strip of Petronella bordering on the west side of the Hartmanns (Goldens) plot. The plot that is called Great Pond goes from a skinny piece on the west side of the pond’s actual opening to the bay, up the valley to the south and east of Union and Mt. Washington.

If I was building a resort, I too would ban the massage people that fight to oppose my development…
Typical, oppose without knowing what you are talking about… react to hearsay… foolish people you are.
go back to Rhode Island.
July 30th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
But you’re not building a resort, are you. No, you’re just trolling the site looking for someplace to throw in a negative comment. Typical, toss in a negative comment without a clue what you’re talking about.
July 30th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Thanks for commenting, “Edie”.
I’ve been wondering where you’d gone.
Now, please explain what I oppose without knowing what I’m talking about.
Extensive research has gone into our opposition to the Golden (now Wyndham..?)project. So many laws have been broken to allow “permits” to be given, that it makes a mockery of the entire system.
You can call us “foolish” until you’re blue in the face, big guy, but the truth is the truth. Unfortunately, too many people believe in hype and lies. I’m not calling names here, but you seem to be one of those believers.
